Hazard management results …
The WMK association has expectations of kindergartens to identify
hazards at a local level, and to be strategic
in analysing the environment and our practice, and looking at accident/ medical management.
Team will note
association hazard management info as it is disseminated to them.
Team will ask assn senior
management PA Lorraine Coulston to explain procedure dissemination procedures
as they happen if unclear how such a hazard might be resolved with funding or
approval processes formulating ways forward.
Team have developed a
master daily hazard list, a master termly hazard list – both specific to the
kindergarten as per assn instructions. This is a very complex list and process
developed in 2016/17. The items on this list are reviewed each term at local
level.
Week 9 each term is the time the assn has designated for each kindergarten to work on their daily and
termly hazards. Afterwards we will transfer
data to an overall hazard check form and also an uploaded hazard register ( new
hazards one at a time). This is a data
retaining entity called GOSH. GOSH is
how we enter any related maintenance concerns to the assn also.
Week 9 audits will include
auditing the medical application registers
and medical cabinet contents re: expiry and supply. We will ask families to
replace contents if they expire before week 9 of the next term.

audit of first aid kit contents re:
being available and in terms of expiry. We have a master list of assn approved first aid contents to check
against.
In our week 9 termly
hazard week focus we will look at the on line accident book uploaded reports to association and ensure
that we engaged with how the accident happened and any lines of direction that
might feed from this. We’ll also look at the daily minor hazard reports to look at commonalities in any documented minor accidents. If these occur we need to add
a line of direction to the termly/daily hazard work to ensure this regular
minor hazard is minimised. This might also be addressed with a teaching and
learning plan response or a supervision or resource provision decision. We have a check box in this last area in the termly hazard register
review template…… to ensure this has happened.
Kindergarten support
staff will ensure regular info reports ( health and also emergency evacuation
lists of contacts for all children) will be posted in the evacuation ‘go’ bag for the group to use when children
are transferred out of the building for pick up. This will be updated a Minimum of twice per
term.
The teaching team are
required to keep up first aid refreshers every two years and to engage in Child
protection professional development.
This is provided by the association.
If a child has an
identified medical need that includes specific practice and administration of
medication, we will seek PD. Identified children with high needs will have an
individual plan designed. Refer admin of medication procedure for specific
procedures.
In order to ensure children are
safe at Kindergarten and hazards are looked at in a range of ways…the
association directs ( in policy ) that each kindergarten has its own procedures
that are implemented by staff every day that comply with WMK policies. These
are all firmly in place in a range of procedures…. these include the below that
relate to hazard managment:

in kindergartens
• Sun
protection
• Administering
medication
• Management
of Illnesses
• Visitors
to the kindergarten

Child protection PD and local procedure
• Cyber safety procedures to guide
the use of the internet, mobile phones and other ICT devices and equipment
• Specific planning for excursions
using WMK policies and forms which include full risk assessments.
